27mm wide angle not perfect but satisfactory

The ST550(TL225)’s dual LCD will attract public gaze, fun and desire, but the most important thing for a camera is the lens.  While the DSLR is having its heyday, the performance and power of the digital camera is exceeding the DSLR’s. The ST550(TL225) mounted 27-125mm F3.5-5.9 4.6x zoom lens to compensate for lack of 28mm 3x lens. If an iris value and 24mm wide-angle had been applied, it would be the most excellent one of the ST series. However it is commendable that the ST550(TL225) has a larger angle of view with the smaller size than the ST100 28-140mm F3.5-5.8.    

This is the image of the greatest wide angle and telephoto of the 27-125mm lens. It is incredible to believe that such a small and slim lens has 4.6x zoom. However a slim and small size is not all the Samsung brand tries to achieve. It supports a high speed AF compared to the previous ST series and it does show off its great focusing at a wide-angle as well as telephoto. The super affix (macro) evolved from an affix will be loved by the users who like expression and out focusing.  

The Appearance and Design of the ST550(TL225)

The simple design of the ST550(TL225) tells you 120% of it. Have you been looking for buttons? You may be disappointed. The ST550(TL225) allows you to operate all the features on the back LCD by applying Haptic UI, front 1.5-inch LCD and back 3.5-inch touch LCD. That is why the design of the ST550(TL225) became simpler. The back LCD looks more open and large without buttons and you may see a design trend of the digital design from the back design. Thanks to a motion function, the 3.5-inch wide LCD allows you to turn photos and menu only by gesture without even touching it. At first, you may need some time to adapt yourself to it but once you get used to it, you will do the gesture while you use other products in spite of yourself.   

This shows turning a photo by a motion. You can turn photos by touch but you can also see photos like a slide show only by tilting the camera. When you find a photo you want to see and you place the camera straight, it adjusts the size of the photo to the whole size and you can see the photo. While the previous digital camera uses a Multi-See in order to easily find a photo of many photos you want, the ST550(TL225) has an evolved feature allowing you to see a slide show and photo you want only by a gesture.   

The memory of the ST550(TL225) is MicroSD card, which makes the ST550(TL225) or ST1000(CL65) to be slim. The small MicroSD card makes the body design slim. Although you may feel that 720mAh battery is not enough to use the dual LCD and 3.5-inch touchscreen, actually you will not feel inconvenient in using it since you will not use the dual LCD all the time. However it is better to have an extra battery and cable for charge for a long trip. It is true that the speed of exchanging data is slower than the SD card, but it is still difficult to reduce the time for exchanging a lot of data for the sake of the design and function. 

The ST550(TL225) boasts of a large 3.5 inch touchscreen. You can see the largeness of the back LCD in comparison with the 3-inch Sky Presto Phone and Argo Phone. Although the same touchscreen is applied the ST550(TL225) of Haptic UI has more evolved sensitivity and vibration than the mobile appliances. The full touch on the back does not always have a strength: when I carry the camera with the power on, the touch feature works. I thought personally that it would be better to have ‘Hold’ function, but it may be too much.

First Meeting with the ST550(TL225)

What is noteworthy from the ST550(TL225) is the design and performance different from the previous digital camera. It improved the inconveniency of a self portrait shot by the dual LCD, and it is fun to take a picture and use리 thanks to the Children Mode and Viewing Guide. The Haptic UI applied touch LCD could be easily gaudy but it beautifully made the design simple and neat. Even the touch mode is minimized by the motion feature for frequently used modes. While the size is bigger than the previous digital camera, the large LCD and slimness is certainly different from other digital cameras. There is a saying that for the design, it is easy to add but difficult to hide. This saying does not work for the ST550(TL225). Slim, Simple, Dual LCD, 3.5-inch Haptic UI touch LCD, highly efficient AF and etc. I think this camera will present a new paradigm in the IT market where you will be behind unless you update yourself and position itself to be favorably received by the global market as well as the Korean market.
