1. MP3P, and Samsung

As a country who made MP3 players first, I think there are many users who can think of several brands going bankrupt in Korea.  The market medium and small companies have built up was shaken by large companies, and then the situation too hard for minor companies had been made, so many of them became bankrupt.

It was natural that Samsung having the broadest market field in domestic companies and standing out in a boom in IT took park in MP3P market.  Once iPod swept over the whole world, Samsung has been getting back their power by releasing their models which combined their own design and various functions continuously.

Before, an interesting video clip was put up on the famous video site.  After a car stepped on the MP3P including a speaker, it doesn’t affect not only external parts, but also the function.  This video clip strongly interested users all over the world.
 

The Yepp YP-S5 has an internal slide speaker. The K5, its predecessor, was a very experimental product. The fresh idea of a slide speaker was good, but the big size of the product and 2% insufficient product was evaluated as a product that failed to gain popularity among the public.

However, there were no other products in the speaker genre, and there still are not many, so the K5 has been bought continuously by users, and the K3, which has the same UI as the K5 minus the speaker for a slimmer design, became a very popular product.

The Yepp YP-S5 has received the advantages of the K5 and improved its disadvantages. Let’s take a look at what parts have been improved and what functions have been added, and whether it is a product worth using.

This is probably the product that used the most double-sided tape. First of all, I needed a cutting knife, and radio screwdriver to open up the product.

The official press talk for the official release of the new MP3P lineup, YP-P2/T10/S5, which is released today (August 28th) took place on August 24th, at the Park Hyatt Hotel in Samsung-dong. Since the release of the T9 last September, Samsung has released products with a unique concept like the K5/K3/U3 rather than a representative lineup structure, and this was an event to officially announce its next lineup. This talk, which invited not only mobile device related reporters, but also portal site related products themed cafe operators and fan website operators, went on till a late hour with many questions asked.

The first product to be introduced, the YP-P2, is a touch screen lineup of the Samsung MP3P field and uses a 2/4/8GB flash memory. It can play WMV/ MPEG-4/ JPEG/ MP3/ WMA files, is 3 inches n size and has a 16:9 wide screen. It support a maximum of 35 hours of music playing and 5 hours of video playing, and most of all supports the Bluetooth 2.0, so you can listen to all sound sources played with the P2 through Bluetooth headsets, and multi-pairing is possible, so 2 headsets can be connected.

The touch method used on the P2 is a method that uses electricity that goes through the body, so only works with the finger and not with a touch pen or other device. Therefore, it has a better transmission and reflection rate than PDA displays with a pressure method, and the screen can be made to be the same level as the outer case. Samsung has called this touch method Emo Ture, and said it chose a sensual UI by allowing the user to select the previous or next song, up or down, or volume by pressing the icon or rubbing the screen from left to right.

Aside from the basic music playing function, it has functions such as FM radio reception and viewing picture files, and all selections can be made by pressing or rubbing the screen.

Also, the wider screen strengthens the text viewing function, and every time you sweep the screen it feels like you are turning pages in a book, and it has calendar and world time viewing functions, too.

The round LED on the bottom of the P2 is used to confirm the current status of the P2, and activates charging/hold/Bluetooth selection. In order to use Bluetooth function more widely, Samsung has made it possible to pair the P2 with the Bluetooth headset, YA-BH270, and Bluetooth speaker, YA-BS300, so it can be multi-paired with cell phones that support this function.

P2, T10, S5 all have better sound field functions by using the DNSe 2.0.

The P2 has a wide touch screen, supports Bluetooth 2.0 and even has an internal microphone, but maintains a thickness under 10mm at 9.9mm.

The S5 and introduced after the P2 was a product that mixed the internal speaker of the K5 and the functions of the T9, and felt like it was upgraded because it supports various files, has a 1.8 inch LCD and plays videos, and has a 1500mW speaker, etc. The thickness and weight of the product has decreased 20% each compared to the existing K5. Also, it supports Bluetooth that was provided with the T9, has an FM radio alarm function and USB to 24 pin cable that plays an external speaker role, too.

The following product of the YEPP T9, the T10 is only 7.9mm in thickness and weighs just 43 g, comes in 5 colors, black/mystic purple/maple red/lime yellow/white cloud, and is divided into 2~8 GB capacities. The maximum playing time is 30 hours for music and 4 hours for videos, so there is not much of a difference from the T9. It uses a dog character called Sammy to make an active UI.

The advanced DNSe 2.0 sound field function in the P2, S5, T10 allows for a more diverse sound field selection. (Boardnara plans to review the DNSe 2.0 in detail later)

It also provides a DataCast service with SMS (Samsung Media Studio) so the MP3P can use a variety of information services through RSS, so is planning to play a role similar to that of the competitor's Podcast.

This meeting announced three mainstream MP3P lineups together, and is evaluated as a turning point that will bring together characteristics that were spread out before, and it is predicted that Samsung will continue to stress its MP3P lineup characteristic, the Bluetooth function.
